Having distinguished out the various Communions of Oriental Christians which might be covered by the name ‘Orthodox’, this article narrates the history of the official dialogue of the Roman Catholic Church with the Chalcedonian Orthodox, asks after the provenance of the theological notions used in that dialogue and concludes with some reflections on the primacy.
