This email deals with the fallout from the suspension of the IARCCUM Commission. The IARCCUM plenary was originally intended to meet in Seattle in conjunction with the ARCIC II plenary meeting. The work of IARCCUM was placed on hold following a meeting on 25 November between Cardinal Walter Kasper, President of the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of Christian Unity, and the Reverend Canon John L. Peterson, Secretary General of the Anglican Consultative Council.

During the 25 November meeting, the Cardinal and Secretary General agreed that a special sub-commission of IARCCUM would prepare a report reflecting upon the ecclesiological issues raised by developments within the Anglican Communion in the light of the relevant Agreed Statements of ARCIC.

On 29 November, Bishop Frank Griswold resigned as co-chair of the dialogue. Archbishop Peter Carnley was announced as the new co-chair on 9 December.
