Rev. Dr. William Jonathan Adam (b. October 28, 1969) is a priest of the Church of England who studied theology and English church history at the University of Manchester, trained for ordination at Westcott House, Cambridge, and spent six months at the Bossey Ecumenical Institute in 1993. He went on to earn a master’s degree and a doctorate in canon law from Cardiff Law School, and was elected a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society (2011) and the Society of Antiquaries of London (2024). Ordained deacon in 1994 and priest in 1995, he served parish ministry in Oxford, Ely, and London until 2017. From 2017 to 2022 he served as Ecumenical Adviser to the Archbishop of Canterbury, then as Director of Unity, Faith & Order and Deputy Secretary General at the Anglican Communion Office, where he also acted as co‑secretary for ARCIC III and IARCCUM from 2018 to 2022. In July 2022 he became Archdeacon of Canterbury, while briefly seconded back to the Anglican Communion Office for the Lambeth Conference.
