RE: Proposed Guidelines for Access to ARCIC Archives

The question has arisen in the past regarding access to the ARCIC archives. The following points are recommended as agreed policy of the PCPCU and the Anglican Communion Office.

If agreed, the cosecretaries of ARCIC will communicate this policy to the members of the Commission.

1. That there be no access to ARCIC archives and papers which are less than 30 years old. (This is line with the rules of the UK Public Records Office and the Lambeth Palace Library). The only exception to this rule is for present members of the Commission and present staff of the Anglican Communion Office, Lambeth Palace and Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity.

2. Present and past Commission members are asked to observe the 30 year rule for any ARCIC papers which may be in their personal archives.

3. The 30 year rule does not restrict the right of any present or past member of the Commission to independently publish or otherwise release a paper which he or she may have prepared as background to a session of ARCIC.
