AN OBSERVATION ON THE PAPER: STEPS TOWARDS UNITY

I believe ARCIC II‘s work on steps towards ecclesial communion should be in three distinct sections:

l. The existing communion which we already share as a theological basis for practical and pastoral steps already happening in some place but not others;

2. Further steps – especially in relation to the reconciliation of ministries – in the light of an official acceptance of ARCIC I‘s work on eucharist and ministry, and work on the ordination of women;

3. A theological vision of what koinonia implies for the shape of future unity – the theological basis for unity in diversity and some spelling out of what this could mean pastorally and even juridically.

All the above undergirded by an agreed ecclesiology of koinonia (cf. Jean Tillard‘s paper).
