Episcopal priest and, most recently, Sherman E. Johnson Professor in Biblical Studies at the Church Divinity School of the Pacific, Berkeley, CA. Countryman, who has roots in Oklahoma and was ordained there, earned his A.B., M.A. and Ph.D. degrees at the University of Chicago and his S.T.B. at the General Theological Seminary in New York City.
