Anglican-Roman Catholic International Commission II (ARCIC-II)
1983-2005

Hierarchical context:

Series: ARCIC-I (1970-1981), ARCIC-II (1983-2005), ARCIC-III (2011-)

Is the Catalogue an accession list? The original ARCIC-II catalogue was maintained by the co-secretaries, with protocol numbers assigned in order as the documents were circulated. The actual publication date of documents did not determine their protocol numbers, since items published several years earlier were regularly shared with the commission members. The catalogue is essentially complete as an accession list, but documents are added regularly to this archive, and may be inserted into the chronological sequence based upon the time that these documents were originally circulated. There are some major gaps in the original catalogue, which are slowly being filled during the document scanning process as new documents are discovered.

Documents without protocol numbers: Although many documents received a protocol number when they were created, a large number of files of secondary importance were not included in the initial catalogue. For archival purposes, these have been assigned a protocol designation consisting of “Doc” followed by our internal database ID number and the year of accession, e.g. Doc 771/83. In some cases, these document numbers will be replaced if an original protocol number is recovered.

Is the list available sorted by category? Yes, the complete ARCIC-II collection (fonds) is sorted by document type. A future “thematic index” is also planned.

Why are some documents not yet listed? Like many archives, the IARCCUM.org archive employs a 30-year embargo policy for unpublished documents. This includes minutes, correspondence, draft texts and notes, as well as study papers. Published materials include the agreed statements, reports, and journal articles, all of which are available as soon as they are added to the archive.

Unscanned documents. Each document lists one or more “items” in various formats and locations, including external archives. A note indicating that a local document has not yet been scanned is added wherever applicable. These documents are being scanned sporadically by the editor from the files at the Anglican Communion Office, Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity, Lambeth Palace Library, and Anglican Centre in Rome. If you can assist in this process, please send good quality scans to the editor.
