FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NEW YORK — The 29th meeting of the Ang1ican-Roman Catho1ic dia1ogue in the United States (ARC-USA) took place last December 10-13 at the House of the Redeemer here. Episcopal Bishop Coadjutor Theodore Eastman of Maryland was the host. Archbishop John F. Whealon of Hartford attended his first meeting as the new Roman Catholic co-chairman of the dialogue.

In response to a request from the Second Anglican-Roman Catholic International Commission (ARCIC II), the New York meeting discussed issues which affect the expression of unity between the two churches, including the Roman Catholic recognition of Anglican orders and the Roman Catholic concept of Communicatio in Sacria (sharing in worship). Representatives of each church’s nationa1 network of diocesan ecumenical officers suggested ways of expressing unity which are possible within the present disciplines of the two churches.

The ARC-USA 30th meeting is scheduled for next October 13-16 when apostolic succession, the sacrificial nature of the eucharist, and models of the church will be discussed.
