Includes a portion of the introduction as well as sections 4-6 of chapter 5 of P.J. Fitzpatrick’s In the Breaking of the Bread, a book expected to be published soon thereafter. A covering letter from Bishop Alan Clark is included that provides some context for these sections within the rest of chapter 5. The first record of publication of Fitzpatrick’s book appears to be in 1993 (Cambridge University Press) with the slightly revised title In Breaking of Bread: The Eucharist and Ritual.

Further research under the pseudonym G. Egner reveals other contemporaneous essays on transubstantiation:

These essays critical of Aquinas’ doctrine of transubstantiation were published together with materials defending Aquinas written by the New Blackfriars editor, Herbert McCabe. The entire exchange was re-published by McCabe in his book God Matters (Continuum, 1987), see ch. 4, pp. 115-180.
