This undated article was included within the January 1998 issue of the newsletter of the Ecumenical Society of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The principal article in the issue was a paper given in July 1997 by Bishop Edward Knapp-Fisher. In the course of the bishop’s presentation to the Society, he had referenced Tillard’s unpublished paper. The editor included Tillard’s paper in the newsletter, but gave it no provenance, though it was clearly written sometime between 1988 and 1997. Since Tillard’s paper makes no reference to the Church of England 1992 decision to ordain women or the 1994 papal letter Ordinatio Sacerdotalis, it was probably written before 1992.
